Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department Endorses the Boot™

Dear Mr. Couturier,

I am pleased to join the Michigan Sheriffs' Association and other Sheriffs across our state in endorsing your new security product, The Boot™. The Boot™ is simple, easy to use, affordable and when properly used to secure a door, makes it almost impossible to gain entry into a classroom or office. The WCSO viewed a demonstration of The BOOT and we were extremely impressed with its potential to provide additional protection for our schools and our children.

The mission of the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office is to, "Create Public Safety, Provide Quality Service, Build Strong and Sustainable Communities". An integral part of this mission is keeping out schools and young people safe. After the trgedy that occurred at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, the law enforcement agencies in Washtenaw County came together to develop and support and support a comprehensive plan designed to keep our schools and children as safe as possible.

In conjunction with the other law enforcement agencies, the WCSO has taken the lead on implementing A.L.I.C.E. active shooter preparedness training in each of our public schools throughout Washtenaw County. This training is designed to produce better outcomes in the advent of an armed intruder in the schools. We hope to have this training expanded to other organizations in the county who have already expressed interest.

The use of The Boot™ safety devide complements the comprehensive active intruder response training plan already being rolled out in our schools and adds an additional layer of security and enhances safety in our schools and other institutions. When the most effective means of keeping safe until help arrives is staying place and keeping the armed intruder out, using The BOOT to restrict entry into potentially vulnerable areas is a tremendous asset. We enthusiastically support its use.

  • Sincerely,
  • Sheriff Jerry L. Clayton
